Who You Are: Types of Movie Watchers

We have roughly identified and segmented movie watchers on different characteristics they exhibit. Below are the names we have given them, as well as a brief description to help you find out who you are, and what movies you'd probably like, if not all of them (We only cover the great movies, let the paid critics deal with the crappy ones).

1. The Deep Thinker: A lot of times this watcher gets pegged for being to picky, or being snobby and critical about their movies. We don't think this is too fair, everyone is different and as the saying goes, "to each his own". The deep thinker needs a storyline that takes time to develop, actors that know a thing or two about their job, and a little more than just a hint of realism. The storyline needs to be deep, and doesn't necessarily have to have twists and turns at every corner. It needs to take time and develop the character; to draw you into the movie. A deep thinker can't watch a movie that has Paul Walker running around taking on dudes twice his size and kicking ass. There needs to be spot on acting as well as realistic situations in the movie. The greatest directors you can think of have gotten to where they are because they understand this movie watcher, and we'll do our best to understand you too as we review many movies.

2. The Casual Dude: This is most likely your 'chill' friend. The person to whom if you ask if they want to go out on a Tuesday night, they'll shrug their shoulders and say sure. They aren't picky about the acting, deep storyline, or genre of the movie. They are content with sitting down, hanging out, and watching anyone from Katherine Heigl to Bruce Willis get up there and act. Sure, they may have their niche, like cool scenery or a certain actor/actress, but they're really up for anything, which makes it real easy for us.

3. Dynamite Dan: This guy/girl pays the ridiculous $12 a movie to see buildings explode, incredibly unrealistic car chases, and dudes jumping across the tops of buildings in epic style. Is there really any movie that is realistic today, and if you're spending 2 hours watching one, shouldn't you watch one that takes it to the most extreme limits anyway? When they think of amazing performances, acts like Jason Statham in The Transporter, and Tom Cruise in MIP come to mind. Acting only goes so far until special effects grabs the baton to finish the race, Dynamite Dan watches movies for these explosive reasons.

4. The Dramatic: This is where things get a little fuzzy. You see, as drama movie is defined as movie with extensive character development and blah blah blah, emotional, comedy, action, etc. Basically, every movie in existence can be categorized as a drama. In that case, let's just say a drama is a movie that draws you into an awesome storyline. Whether it's one that gets the waterworks flowing or just an awesome story about whatever, there is a little place in all of us that likes dramas, you know who you are.

5. Fantasy Extravagant: I know what you're thinking, "No way am I a fantasy extravagant, I dont watch that corny stuff". Now let me tell you this; Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, and countless others are all fantasy movies. Change your mind? These are the types of watchers that love throwing themselves into another world or a different place or time. They dream big, and like to see it portrayed well on the big screen. They sit at home just waiting for that next Spielberg classic, knowing that they'll be first in line that the midnight premier.

6. The Comedian: Now this category can also be divided up into multiple categories. You have the raunchy bro that loves hilarious, vulgar movies like Superbad and 40 Year Old Virgin. You have the chick flick dixie who will watch any and all movies Katherine Heigl. The Adam Sandler guru (Stupid Comedy), who saw Big Daddy 10 time opening week. And lastly, the Rom-Com enthusiast, who's favorite actor is, yep you guessed it, Ashton Kutcher. All of these types fall under "The Comedian", because they all go to the movies for one reason, a good laugh.

7. The Stalker: Everyone one of us has a bit of a stalker in us. Whether it's for one actor/actress or more, we go see all their movies, constantly update TMZ to see what they're up to, and have about 95% of their Wikipedia page memorized. This isn't so much a category, but we'll keep tabs on the major actors/actresses in movies to let you know whether you want to see them on the big screen, or rentals/'il'legal streaming.
